Gospel Folk Choir, Canberra
Make 2017 your brightest year yet - come and sing with the Gospel Folk. We are actively recruiting new members. No auditions. Read more about joining here.
We're a non-auditioned choir with a membership of around 80 singers, men and women, based in Canberra, Australia. We're a very friendly bunch of people who have fun at practices, social events and performances. We welcome anyone who loves singing our repertoire and who supports the aims of the choir.
Our main aim is to sing well enough to perform in public. This means we commit to getting to rehearsals regularly, learning our parts, memorising the words of our songs, and turning up at our public performances.
We sing a varied repertoire of gospel, folk, African and other songs, usually in four-part harmony (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). Most of our music is arranged by our choir director, Brian Triglone, and the musical team to suit the voices in the choir. To read more about gospel music, visit our About page.
We perform at a range of gigs, principally around the ACT. We have sung at the opening of a new Day Hospice, at a Vietnam Vets reunion gathering, at Floriade and at community carol evenings in Canberra. In 2013 we were active contributors to the Musical Offering for Canberra's Centenary, with performances at the High Court of Australia, the National Arboretum and Old Parliament House. We also enjoy performing in country towns or for people with special needs.
Members benefits include an annual full-day workshop and monthly singing coaching by leading Australian soprano Louise Page OAM.
